Active Release Techniques
Active Release Teachnique (ART®) is a patented, state of the art manual soft tissue therapy that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, Back pain, Carpal tunnel syndrome, Shin splints, Shoulder pain, Sciatica, Plantar fasciitis, Knee problems, and Tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. ART can help to decrease pain as well as increase range of motion and muscular and fascial function and efficiency.
Dr. Amber Wiens is a Chiropractor and Acupuncture provider at Adjust Your Health Calgary in Royal Oak. Dr. Wiens treats athletes, weekend warriors, and those whom have been injured due to repetitive strain or injury in the workplace.
Dr. Wiens often uses Active Release Techniques®, Acupuncture, Chiropractic manipulation, Physiotherapy modalities (Shockwave and laser), and nutritional counselling to aid her patients in the healing process. Ultimately her goal is to work with her patients to help them achieve a greater wellbeing.
Shockwave therapy is relatively new in the mainstream manual therapy world. Although it sounds like the “electroshock therapy” seen in movies, it is very different. Shockwave therapy involves using sound waves to influence muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, and bone to induce microtrauma and stimulate the body’s healing response. This treatment works very well for chronic tendinitis, bursitis, calcific tendinitis and even has some research supporting decreased pain in non-healing fractures. The process usually involves 3-6 treatments and can drastically reduce pain and increase function in the affected area.
