Setting SMART Fitness Goals!
Getting Started Is The Hardest Part
It can be difficult to start an exercise program. The reason being? Because change is tough! It can take weeks or even months before you can see any visible changes to your body, which makes the process even more difficult.
Don't Boil The Ocean
Too many people start their exercise programs with only the end in mind. Knowing where you are going is a good thing. But if your only way to measure success is your end goal, it will be very difficult to stay motivated throughout your journey, especially on those tough days that are inevitable.
Consistency & Perseverance Is The Secret
Seeing 1000's of clients struggle and succeed with fitness, there is a common thread across the board. The people who are patient, consistent and stick to a plan are the most successful. SMART goals are how our personal trainers keep our clients motivated and engaged.
What is so Smart about S.M.A.R.T
SMART is an acronym which can be used to provide a more comprehensive definition of goal setting:
S (specific, significant) - It's one thing saying I need to get in shape... but what dos that look for you as an individual? Are your goals weight loss, weight gain, rehabilitation, strength based, sport specific?
M (measurable, meaningful, motivational) - When, what, and how do you measure your success? Is the tool of measurement the right tool for giving you accurate information if you are moving closer to your goals?
A (agreed upon, attainable, achievable) - Accountability and programming are essential for meeting goals. That is why people have so much success working with a trainer.
R (realistic, relevant, reasonable) - Knowing where you are currently at and what are realistic goals to start with, based on your current available time, commitment and fitness level help prevent disappointment.
T (time-based, time-bound, timely) - Give yourself a deadline. Time constraints are important so you can set the right goal and also motivate you to get them done.
