Motivate Yourself And Make A Difference
Self-image and Goals
Everyone creates a vision of what their ideal abilities, appearance, and personality should be. People can differ in whether their self-image is positive or negative, but regardless, it is where they generate their goals and dreams.
One of the biggest benefits of regularly participating in exercise, is that it allows individuals to create a positive view of their body and lifestyle, ultimately improving self-image and confidence. Feeling in control of your fitness and health often translates into career and family.
So the question is, if everybody knows the benefits of exercise, why is it so hard to start and stick to an exercise regime? And how does somebody motivate themselves to get started?
Fear is that path to the dark side.
We all have goals, dreams and aspirations, but when it comes to pursuing them, life often gets in the way. Excuses or insecurities win out over commitment. In order for you to be truly successful in your fitness program, you need to be in the driver’s seat of your life. This means killing fear. Fear is the father of all negative emotion and stress, and leads to excuses like “can’t”, “impossible” and “never,” all of which are cancers to success. The way to kill fear is through support, preparation and education...
It is easy to quit when you're the only person you are accountable to. Find a workout buddy or a community of workout buddies and use them to your advantage. This could be joining a gym, a boot camp, hiring a personal trainer or signing up for a registered program at your local YMCA.
Knowledge is power! We encourage you to seek out a personal trainer that will help you succeed. A trainer will not only make sure you are doing things safely, but optimize your time in the gym, create a plan and strategize and set goals. More importantly though, the right trainer will also educate you on the process, so that eventually you have the knowledge to take complete control over your own fitness!
Success doesn't happen by chance, it takes planning and preparation. From pre-planning your meals, to following a workout plan while you are at the gym - without preparation, your chances of success decrease dramatically. This is where seeking the services of a professional can sufficiently prepare you for the journey ahead.
Master your Motive
Your motivation to succeed must outweigh your resistances against change. Your motive and resistance are in constant competition. By understanding both, you can strengthen your mental toughness and help motivate your self not only to get started but to stick to a plan.
Motivation comes from:
- Factors in your life you would like to improve
- How you picture your success
- Your core reason and purpose
Resistance comes from:
- Comforts in your life that prevent change
- Negative emotions toward change and failure
- The large amount of work it takes
Here are some questions you can answer to help identify your motive and your resistances:
- What could I change to reach my goals?
- What does my ideal fitness and body type look like?
- Why are you trying to achieve these goals?
- What will prevent you from reaching your goals?
- Is why you are starting a fitness program more important than your current lifestyle?
